THE ACTIVE DESIGN DEPARTMENT

All’s fair in fitness and design...

Whether you are putting more ‘active’ in your design or adding some ‘design’ to your active, I’m here for it. From facility design to outdoor placemaking, exercise programming to personal training, to policymaking that creates their systems of support, I’m here to provide planning strategies that influence health probability.

I CAN DO IT WITH AN OPEN HEART

DESIGNING

As an active design consultant, I use the process of addressing surrounding environmental parameters to devise programs, plans, and policies that incorporate physical activity into daily life. Part scientist, part artist, I understand how natural systems interact with human-made systems, and apply this knowledge to create spaces that encourage healthy living patterns. I have a passion for plazas, parks and playgrounds, gyms and fitness facilities, master planning, and designing complete streets and linear parks as combination corridors – spaces that connect people, nature, and our built world with attention to placemaking for exercise and social serendipity.

TRAINING

As a health and fitness professional I use an individualized approach to assess, motivate, educate and train clients of all ages regarding their personal health and fitness needs. I design safe and effective exercise programs, and provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health and fitness goals. I view strength and conditioning as essential skills for a living a longer and healthier life, and champion them as important habits for checking in with yourself. I believe in exercise for the reward of healthy aging – focusing on technique, encouraging consistency and celebrating the benefits of fitness throughout lifespan.

THE ALCHEMY

With backgrounds in environmental design and personal training, I understand that people are most physically active when their environments are socially supportive, highly walkable and very green. I recognize the links between health and urban development and that when it comes to everyday livability, access to active living is the intersection where personal and public health meet.
